I’m starting a new series of oil paintings based on a beautiful part of the South known as the Low country. Ancient Live oaks covered in moss, Pine and Palmetto trees that border the marshlands will be my subjects as I explore this unique region.
I’ve named this collection “Sabbatical” because I had the chance to take a break and paint on the west coast. The California Impressionists captured the distinctive glow of the Golden State. Their work is characterized by loose brushwork, rich color, and a fascination with the effects of sunlight. This series was inspired by the sea-sprayed cliffs and rolling hills of Carmel.
